Horsham to hold Rock and Blues Festival

This July Horsham will welcome to the town the first Horsham Rock and Blues Festival, which will be taking place at Horsham Sports Club on Saturday, July 6.

The event is being headlined by rock blues musician Aynsley Lister who has toured alongside legends Lynyrd Skynyrd.

The event is being organized by local men, Stuart James and Nick Paxton. They are putting on the festival after a decision to not hold the Rudgwick Music Festival this year, making the Horsham Rock and Blues Festival the local festival to attend.

Stuart James told The District Post: “Nick, who organized events such as Musos on Bikes in Broadbridge Heath, and who has played in bands around town rang me up to originally offer me a slot on the bill. At that time the festival was lacking a headline act, Nick asked if I could get anybody and I looked through a few names on the rock blues circuit and we picked Aynsley as he is a fantastic musician and his style really offers something for everybody.”

Aynsley Lister is the only UK artist to be feature in Classic Rock magazines Top Ten Contemporary Blues Artists and has over 100,000 record sales to date.

Also performing at the event will be Iron Maiden tribute, Spy on Maiden, the Stuart James Band who were nominated for a British Blues Award this year for best original song. Psycho babble, fronted by Andy Ruff, perform indie music with a mod influence, Levellers-inspired folk rock band Furious Badgers, Half Hour Hotel, and acoustic musician Taygan Paxton.

Stuart said: “If it works this year we want to run it again, and have three headline acts. We have tried to pick different bands to play the festival and there are lots of different styles of music throughout the day.”

Nick said: “The cricket club approached me to organize the event. I think there’s a thriving music scene in Horsham and it’s the first time we’ve put something like this on and we want to take it to the next level.”

Tickets are available from Horsham Sports Club, M&J News, Denne Road, and The Capitol theatre at the Box Office on 01403 750220. The festival starts at 2pm and tickets cost £10.00. You can also buy tickets online at http://www.wegottickets.com/event/229145
