Horsham Hawks have reached the end of their competitive season, and what a season it was. Numerous team successes coupled with many of the clubs players being selected for England International and Sussex county team places has resulted in the past season being the Hawks most successful since the clubs formation.
The club run four teams in the Sussex Basketball League in the under 11, 12, 14 and 16 age groups. All teams are a mix of both boys and girls and they have one of the strongest girls involvement in the whole Sussex League
The Hawks under 11 team finished 4th in the league and reached the cup playoff semi-finals.
The under 12’s totally dominated their division, coming top by going the whole season undefeated. In addition they reached the cup final where they defeated Worthing by 17 points. Individually the league and cup finals most valuable player awards were given to Tom Evans of the Hawks
The under 14’s came second in their division and also reached the cup final where like the under 12’s they too secured a victory, beating Angmering by 8 points to lift the Sussex Cup.
The Hawks girls have been in terrific form and it has not gone unnoticed with a number of them being selected for squad places in the England international, England National and Sussex county teams.
Hayley Miller and ex Hawks player Holly Merchant were both selected for the England International Squad as well as the National Basketball league squad in which the Hawks Daniela Lozzi was also selected.
Hayley Miller and India Belfield were selected to represent Sussex at under 15, Maya Le Rossignol, Ellie Hutchinson and Millie Lea-Clayton were rewarded by selection to the Sussex under 13 squad and Molly Shaw, Amber Hutchinson, Amy Willcox and Charlotte Willcox made it into the Sussex Girls Under 11 squad.
