Henfield author and Popagami creator Philip Craik was at the national TV Soap Awards in Manchester with specially-made characters for stars to fold.
He created individual Popagami animals representing each of the soaps – including EastEnders, Coronation Street, Emmerdale, Hollyoaks and Doctors.
More than 700 Popagami gift packs were given out to celebrities and their guests at the awards, televised on ITV.
Philip was seen on TV folding the animals at the after-event party.
“Everyone had a brilliant time,” said Philip, whose Popagami books have become an international success. “It was quite an event and I was sitting in the audience with all the cast of Coronation Street – which won best soap of the year.”
Nigel Havers, who won an award for his Coronation Street role as a conman, said the Popagami characters were a delightful addition to the evening.
Child star Eden Taylor-Draper, who plays Belle in Emmerdale, won “best young soap actor” and Philip gave her a specially-created character designed for the cast of the soap.
Philip’s ‘World of Popagami’ book was in The Independent’s seasonal top 50 book gifts list for Christmas – and his Pop-ette finger-puppet characters are becoming an international sensation.
The fun creative book for children, available through major distributors, on-line and through High Street shops, is packed with a dozen easy-to-fold colourful animals.
The World of Popagami is on sale from just £4.99 and available widely from major book distributors, on-line and from High Street bookshops, including Waterstones.
