Local men prepare for charity game at West Ham

Charity football team, The Old Incorrigibles are getting ready for their annual charity football match taking place on Sunday, June 2.

This year the team are playing at the West Ham ground, Upton Park, and will be raising money for Help for Heroes.

South East Hearing in Horsham sponsor the event and owner Rob Davies, is part of the team. Rob told The District Post: “ We’re an old veteran’s football team and we’re quite well known in the district.

“We have played at various clubs for charity and we really enjoy the day and raising money for the chosen charity.”

The team play against themselves in the match, and meet every week at the K2 in Crawley every Sunday morning to play.

Rob said: “It’s a chance for many of us to live out childhood dreams of playing at the big grounds, and we wouldn’t have had the opportunity otherwise.

“We have subs we pay every week and that money goes to the chosen charity.”

South East Hearing are sponsoring this years event as they offer free care for any person who has been discharged from the army with Help for Heroes.

Rob said: “If we can help with their hearing, it’s a tremendous boost to them. We’ve been doing the event now for seven years and we call it “The happiest day of your life”.

“We’re tremendously excited and it’s over-subscribed every year.

“If we could raise a coupe of thousand pounds, then that would be great, throughout the year we’ve aimed to raise £5,000.”
