Horsham Rugby Club youngsters show spirit

Youth Rugby Union, by Clive Watkins –

Horsham U15 lost 33-5 to Heathfield U15 in the Sussex final at Worthing, despite winning the second half 5-0.

Horsham’s forwards maintained parity after the interval, holding their own in the scrum, while Alex Clery and George Palmer interacted well and fullback James Tandy made his customary try-saving tackle.

After much muddy midfield attrition, the Green and Whites eventually got the ball wide and winger Matt Collier scored the only try of the second half.

Justin Dzomekuh and Joe Roche were introduced to good effect and prop Roche almost scored a second try for Horsham.

The damage had been done during a devastating 15-minute spell in the first half, when Sussex fullback Ollie Batchelor and Heathfield’s halfbacks masterminded five tries, even though much of the match was played in Heathfield’s half.
