Atlantis swimmers star in Haywards Heath meet

Atlantis won the Sussex League Division 1 meet at Haywards Heath, finishing with 382 points to East Grinstead’s 322 and Hastings’ 304.

The Horsham club never looked back after Eleanor Morris and Ella Windle finished first and second in the U16 individual medley.

Other wins were achieved by George Boyle, Bex Lobley, Lauren Pedel, James North, Issy Davis, Ella Windle, Lily Davis, James Hartley and Guy Sherwin.

The following day, Atlantis hosted their regional chaser as clubs from as far afield as Croydon and Portsmouth descended on The Pavilions in the Park.

The annual all-day open meet gives swimmers a chance to record the times they need to qualify for county and regional events.

Rose Stride, 12 ,Bex Lobley, 16, Ella Windle, 15, and Edward Hundleby, 13, won the first event, the 400m freestyle.

Atlantis swimmers clocked up 19 regional qualifying times, with Bex Lobley, Eleanor Morris, Anya Elvin, Rebecca Barber, Lily Cherriman, Issy Davis, Isobel Dunlop and Matt Fulcher all successful, no fewer than 134 county qualifying times and many personal bests.

Head coach Bill Penny said of his swimmers: “They have been training hard for the last few months, putting in the work in the pool, and this is a good result for their endeavours.”
