BBC Stargazing Live at Arundel Wetland Centre

On January 31 WWT Arundel Wetland Centre and Astronomia will host a Stargazing Evening in conjunction with the BBC2 Stargazing LIVE TV series. A second astronomy night will be held on Feb 14, on Valentine’s Day.

Neil Phillips of Astronomia will lead a star session in WWT Arundel’s Sand Piper Theatre. Neil uses Stellarium software to display the winter star map on the large movie screen. The event then moves outdoors where staff from Astronomia will supply telescopes to enable people to get great views of the night sky. Astronomia has the largest range of telescopes and binoculars in the south of England in their store in Dorking, Surrey.

The Stargazing evening is one of a series of astronomy activities across the UK in January, encouraged by the BBC Stargazing LIVE program. “At Arundel Wetland Centre the sky over the South Downs has very little light pollution which will make for good viewing through the telescopes,” said Olivia Iles, centre manager, “We are excited to be hosting these astronomy nights again with Astronomia. They were very popular with our visitors last winter.”

Tickets for the evening are only £3 per person. To book tickets for the Thurs 31 Jan Astronomy Evening call 01903 881530.

WWT Arundel Wetland Centre, Mill Road, Arundel BN18 9PB is open from 9:30-4:30pm seven days a week. Call 01903 881530 for more information or visit www.wwt.org.uk/arundel
