The local star of ITV 2’s Girlfri3nds, Amy Bangle, has recently been nominated to take part in Miss GB and is currently at the regionals stage of the competition.
Amy said: “I did some modelling with Miss GB and the founders were there and they entered me into the regionals.”
The aim of the Miss International GB competition is to raise money for the UK children’s cancer charity, the Joshua Foundation.
Organisers say the GB in the competition name stands for Giving Back, and that is the central theme of the pageant this year.
Amy said: “Before the regionals each contestant has to raise £200 for the charity. At the regional awards depending on your fundraising there is a Miss Charity awards. At the regionals the girl who raises the most for their charity goes through to the next round.
Amy has been using the publicity from Girlfri3nds to help raise money for the charity.
Amy commented: “I’ve set up a Justgiving account online and I am selling everything I wore on the show on eBay – all the proceeds are going to the Joshua Charity.
“Girlfri3nds is being aired again from Saturday, December, 22, so it should really help with the clothing sales.
“I’m also using social media to get people to donate. I am posting links to my fundraising pages on my Twitter account and Facebook page. I am also looking to do a cake sale in Horsham.
“It had never been on my agenda to be part of the competition. It’s for the charity more than anything and my family has been affected by cancer and it’s great to use the publicity to do something good.
“Everyone has been really great and supportive and I am aiming to raise four figures for the charity, I’m making a real push for it.
“If any businesses in Horsham want to get involved and make a donation, we really want to work with them.
“I’m thinking about a few collaborations with Horsham based
businesses, and to maybe hold a raffle.”
Girlfri3nds finished filming back in August and Amy is still with her partner she met on the show.
