A man who died in a car at Southwater Country Park has been named as George Bailey, 20, of Six Acres, Slinfold.
At 12.37pm on Saturday, September 29, police were called to a VW Golf parked by a picnic area opposite Andrews Road. They saw the body of a man inside.
A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “As it was believed that there may have been some hazardous chemical substance inside the vehicle, the immediate area was closed off and nearby roads were closed. Residents in Andrews Road and Worthing Road were advised to keep their windows closed and some were temporarily evacuated as a safety precaution until roads were reopened at about 6.30pm. West Sussex Fire and Rescue attended to make the substance safe.
“The body was safely removed just after 5.30pm and the car was removed shortly after 9pm. A post mortem has taken place, but the exact cause of death awaits further forensic tests. The death is not being regarded as suspicious. An inquest has been formally opened and adjourned to a date yet to be set.”
