Storrington scooped silver in the South and South East in Bloom competition, the first time in more than a decade that the village had taken part.
Organiser Jo Cragg, owner of The Village Florist, said: “We had a great deal of support from householders and local businesses and I hope our success will spur us all on to greater things next year. The Greenfingers Group and Storrington Business Breakfast Club were extremely supportive and the Hanover Walk Community Housing area was outstanding. Horsham District Council assisted us by ensuring that the streets were swept prior to judging.
“There was lots of praise from the judges for all the work put in by individuals and groups in making sure the streets were clean, fresh and weed-free. There was a great community spirit for all of those involved. I’m sure that winning the silver will boost everyone’s enthusiasm to go for gold next year.”
Residents can discuss plans for next year at Storrington Village Hall on Friday, October 5 (7pm).
