Horsham District Council is preparing an air-quality action plan for Storrington, which it will submit to the government.
Data from a traffic survey will be included in a traffic management study commissioned by the district council. Options such as HGV restrictions, holding traffic outside the village to ease flows through it and improved highway signage will be assessed.
Cllr Sue Rogers, council Cabinet member for a safer and healthier district, said: “Identifying and implementing solutions to address the air-quality issues in Storrington will be a challenge. We have assembled the right people to examine the options and will consult with all the people in Storrington on proposals to improve air quality.”
A report on air pollution in Cowfold is due to be completed by December.
