West Sussex County Council has signed up to the government’s Troubled Families Initiative, to help families in need across the county.
The three-year programme aims to help families who have been identified as facing difficult issues. This includes working with families to get children back into school, reducing youth crime and antisocial behaviour, and helping adults get back into work. The council estimates that 1,165 families in West Sussex will meet the eligibility criteria and be helped by the scheme.
Cllr Peter Evans, council Cabinet member for children and families, said: “This initiative fits in very well with our Think Family programme, and we will be linking the two. Think Family aims to improve family life and children’s life chances in West Sussex through early intervention by the county council and partner organisations.”
